Alexandrina Victoria , better known as Queen Victoria , reigned as Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 until her death in 1901 . Her reign, known as the Victorian Era , witnessed remarkable developments in industrialisation, science, commerce, and military power, while the British Empire expanded to become the world's largest colonial empire.
